Hamilton Sheppard the Mayor of Mobile Alabama and Klan member; was Liza's father and Boss of Willie Rae senior, who was a Christian and Lisa and Willie Jr. father. He was faced with a choice that his Christianity wouldn't allow him to make; his son was rebellious and on path of destruction, Willie Rae found himself having an unspoken bond, with the Mayor's wife Patricia Ann Sheppard, who was also a Christian and a decent White woman if there ever was one in the South. The black farm workers called Patricia Mrs. Patty; it was a name giving to her by the colored workers as a term of endearment. The colored workers were called the Sheppard's-men giving to them by Hamilton Sheppard and his brother Jud as a term of ownership; even though slavery was emancipated. Patricia was nothing like her husband Hamilton, in fact she was an activist of sorts for the colored. This didn't sit too well with Hamilton. The hate he harbored for the colored and the Christian love that Patricia exerted tainted their marriage. And because she didn't share Hamilton views he was often violent towards her; he hated what she stood for so much that he wanted her dead. The day would come when blood of the innocent would be spilt on the hanging tree, that they now call the blood tree.

On a wintry day in December 1890, near a creek named Wounded Knee on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, the Seventh Cavalry of the U. S. Army opened fire on an encampment of Sioux Indians led by Big Foot. Coming two weeks after the killing of Sitting Bull, in a tense atmosphere of suspicion and misunderstanding, the careless discharge of one gun set off a massacre that claimed more than 250 lives, including those of many Indian women and children. The tragedy at Wounded Knee, which is generally considered the last episode of the Indian Wars, has often been written about but the existing photographs have received little attention until now.

Eyewitness at Wounded Knee brings together and assesses for the first time some 150 photographs that were made before and immediately after the massacre. Present at the scene were two itinerant photographers, George Trager and Clarence Grant Moreledge, whose work has never before been published. Accompanying commentaries focus on both the Indian and military sides of the story. Richard Jensen's "Another Look at Wounded Knee" dwells on the political and economic quagmire in which the Sioux found themselves after 1877. In "Your Country Is Surrounded," R. Eli Paul discusses the army's role at Wounded Knee. John Carter, in "Making Pictures for a News-Hungry Nation," deals with the photographers and also the reporters and relic hunters who were looking to profit from the misfortune of others. Their words enhance our appreciation of the haunting images in this first book-length photographic history of the events that led up to and followed the bloodshed at Wounded Knee.

Butcher: Photographing the American Dream, was published by the University of Nebraska Press in 1985.

great book in its contents but shoddily made and I detected numerous spelling errors which indicates poor editing. Too bad, because the subject is an important episode in United States history. That a publisher allows a book to be printed with spelling errors is beyond me and to me questions the seriousness of the author and its editors.

I sent this book to a friend who is a history buff and he was delighted. The photos are moving and technically excellent. The subject matter is poignant, sad, infuriating and many other things. Emotional to say the least. But it's a part of history - a part that, I hope, will never be repeated, and will be rectified. This is a powerful book.

Empezare por lo que me gusto del libro, el autor ha sabido llevar la parte del misterio que envuelve a Baefra hasta el final, nuestro personajes encontraban una pista para verse envueltos en otro misterio que resolver, siempre te mantiene a la expectativa.
Ahora bien es un libro con demasiada informacion, tanta que me sentia abrumada y habia momentos que tenia que darle un poquito para atras para releer, y la lectura no se me hizo tan fluida, sino un poco pesada, en esa partes de la historia.
Me gusto mucho la forma en que se une la biologia para resolver al final este misterio, ya la ultima parte se lee mas rapido por querer saber si dara resultado el experimento.
Una buen lectura sobre todo para los amantes de la historia egipcia, aqui hay muchas explicaciones en torno a esa civilizacion.
Una historia que une a una Arqueologa, un Militar y una Biologa en la solucion de un misterio de hace miles de años y que cambiaria la forma en que se conoce la historia en la actualidad.

Se nota el esfuerzo sobrehumano que hizo el Zurita para escribir algo de calidad, pero quedó en el intento.
La prosa es forzada, no hay fluidez en el texto.
La historia intenta causar suspenso, pero es un romance cursi y predecible que se sabe como terminará desde mitad del libro.
Con respecto a la documentación... hay datos que están mal, nombres mal puestos. Y los demás son un simple copy - paste de wikipedia... páginas y páginas de textos de como se hace un papiro todo copiado de google.
El intento estuvo, pero le falta mucho a este escritor para sorprender con sus novelas.

Book 2 - Even Better!

This is book two of the series, and like book one, this story kept me turning the pages until late in the night!

Pride is a teen whose time has really come. Once a slave to an evil druglord, she's come back to rescue her people, werewolves that can change and control their wolves, and who are used as weapons by a man who only seeks to break them. She doesn't come back alone, but it is Pride that has to make the hard choices and really pull off the rescue, even if she brought the powerful boy with her who has won her heart. She is also returning to another boy - one she once thought of as an enemy. Now she's not so sure anymore.

In a world where it is hard to know who to trust, Pride must first learn to trust herself and believe in herself. I think that was the part of the story that touched me the most - who hasn't had to look for strength from within during our teen years? Pride is smart, and strong. And now that she knows it, she's out to shove it down the Master's throat. Loved it!!

Even the best laid plans go awry...

This is a fantastic read!
Pride is back with a vengeance and the detail to her plan to free her friends makes us believe, as readers, that she will succeed - after all she's thought everything through, right?
With the pride of youth and the belief that good will prevail Cat Kalen throws us into the Master's world. How is it possible that Pride could believe she would win?
Twists and turns at every chapter along with a great description of the battle Pride has inside seeing her former friends still imprisoned and tortured. Pride has walked into a new world - what will happen to this strong alpha female character? What will happen with her mate Logan and her relationship with Stone?
The detail on how the fortress is set up lets us all know that Pride's plan to escape is a young as she is and perhaps she hasn't learned enough in her freedom.

The second installment in the A Wolf's Pride series continues to build upon the raw animal instincts and amazing characters from the first book while adding new elements that really take this story to the next level. The love triangle between Pride, Stone and Logan grows more complex and has many similarities with the one found in the Nightshade trilogy. In Pride Unleashed, shocking truths are unveiled, sacrifices are made, and battle lines are drawn. I enjoyed this book slightly less than Pride's Run because all of the action unfolds in the compound instead of in the outside world which somewhat limited the wolfish goodness but still a solid installment.

I admire Pride's spunk and determination; after having escaped a life in captivity she still finds the courage to go back and confront her master in the hopes of freeing her pack mates. When others would have run for the hills and never looked back, this werewolf goes head to head with her biggest fears. Even though her original plan backfires she doesn't lose heart but instead concocts a new and improved one. This seventeen year old girl puts most adults to shame with her strength and refusal to give up. Young adult authors should take notes; this is how teenage heroines should be portrayed instead of the typical ditzy story lines. Kalen's descriptive writing style really brings her characters to life. I can't imagine that it's easy writing an entire book that's based out of a single location while still keeping the plot interesting but Cat not only pulls it off but kills it!

The battle of wills between the two alpha males is intense and all consuming; both have good qualities but I still haven't picked a favorite. In Pride's Run, Logan was the clear winner. He taught Pride how to use her small size to her advantage and that her human half is just as much a part of her as her wolf. I wish that Kalen would have explored Stone's past a little bit more in this installment. I know there's "something" about him and it's obvious that he cares deeply for the shewolf but without more to go on it's hard to pick a team. I found many similarities between these two alphas and Ren/Shay from the Nightshade trilogy. I absolutely loved this series so it's no surprise that I'm quickly falling for A Wolf's Pride too. I'm leaning toward Stone at the moment but that could very well change with the next installment.

Pride Unleashed is exquisitely written, the action is fierce and I'm crazy about Cat Kalen's werewolves! Good things come in threes and this trilogy is scheduled to wrap-up in the winter of 2012 with Pride's Pursuit.

Kinetics of Materials by Balluffi, Allen, Carter

This is an excellent book. I have used it three times to teach a course with the same title. The students like the book even though they find it challenging. The solved problems at the end of each chapter are an integral part of this book and the students and I have found it beneficial to work through all the details of the solutions that are provided. The introduction to diffusion through Onsager's irreversible thermodynamic treatment is basic to the subject and is the only book I am aware of in the field of materials science and engineering that commences with this treatment. The authors provide an introduction to irreversible thermodynamics that is very readable. Many of the chapters have excellent tables that summarize the main results.
