Outstanding Tool

"No plan survives contact with the enemy." Well, that might be the case, however by putting the plan together, the planner learns about himself and the enemy he faces. I can make a case that putting together a yardage book is the equivalent to a war plan.

Eric Jones and Dick Barry authored an excellent book that allows you to put together a plan to attack the golf course. The book lays out a methodical and relatively simple means to create a more than functional yardage book with accurate measurements using Google Earth.

The book helped with the following prior to playing:
Identifying landing areas.
Identifying hazards and carry distances to avoid them.
Depth and width of greens.
Approach angles.
Elevation changes.
Aim points.

By knowing this information beforehand I can combine it with my known strengths and weaknesses to create a plan.

I'm currently a 15 handicap, but practice diligently year round. My goal this year is to break par and this book will be a big part of achieving my expectation.

Heads up! If you will be using Power Point 2016, there are two print options when printing double-sided. Choose "Flip pages on the long end." Choose otherwise and you'll find your pages in incorrect order. Save your ink and paper based on my lesson learned.

Interesting read if you like golf

I thoroughly enjoyed reading "How To Make A Yardage Book." Whether you merely want to learn how a yardage book is made or go further and want to make your own, this book will be an enjoyable and valuable read. The authors take complicated issues and make them easy to understand. They also introduced me to how Google Earth can be used in making a yardage book. I found my home golf course and was amazed how clear the color pictures were and how they can be used in developing a yardage book. I’m looking forward to making my own yardage book thanks to Eric and Dave. I've been playing golf for over fifty years starting as a teenager and playing in junior tournaments and college golf and still enjoy reading about new facets of the game.

A practical tool that helps re-focus on every hole!

I initially used the template and took it to the course. It didn't work that well for me {hard to hold the # of pages}. Hence, I bought Moleskin 3X5 Reported Hand Book and taped holes and fairways from the template onto the pages. That is working so much better for me. Despite the advancement of GPS units, the print out version really helps me re-focus on the beginning of every hole , especially #13-18 when my brain starts to wander.

Great info, great illustrations, a little textbook-y

This is a social history of life in ancient India targeted at late elementary schoolers.

It is organized into 14 two-page, thematic spreads that follow a general chronological progression (from the Harrappan civilizations through the Aryan conquest, Mauryan Age, and and the rise of Buddhism) but have a way-of-life emphasis. The packaging, full of drawings, artifacts, and photographs of people and places, is very well done, and the text is clear.

The only drawback is that the presentation is rather dry and textbook-like. However, it is still a very good introduction to an area that is rarely covered by books of this level.

Don't let the cover fool you.

Don't let the cover of this book fool you. The lovely cover makes this book look like a high school or college text, but upon opening it you will find it appeals to a younger crowd. Their are lovely pictures and illustrations. The text is succinct and relatively easy to read. There are many pictures to keep the reader engaged. If your upper elementary to middle school age child finds ancient history a little boring, give this book a try. It is fact-filled but well-illustrated and to-the-point. A great addition to your library if you homeschool; great to flesh out your history lesson if you use MOH or TOG.

Good book

I read this book with my 9-year old son, and he liked it quite a bit. Though my son is not fond of reading in general, he loves reading and learning about India, and this was a great introduction to Ancient Indian history. The book explains complex ideas like reincarnation, karma, nirvana etc quite accurately in simple words. My son understood those concepts in the first reading!

The book talks about Harappan and Aryan civilizations, almost concurrently, and on one ocassion he got confused between them.
